Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Horticulture

Alongside running Lady Peebles Gardening Services, I am studying a Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Horticulture to develop my professional knowledge.

From a young age my time was spent training as a gymnast, learning the value of hard work. Much of that childhood was spent indoors perfecting skills, until my mid-twenties, when I travelled to Australia and discovered a love for working outdoors.

Before leaving, my dad gave me the chance to earn some pennies by helping in his garden while he travelled for work.

It was simple work but I enjoyed  it.

Living in Australia shaped the way I wanted to live. I worked on farms planting and picking fruit and veg as part of my working holiday visa, learned to surf, and grew to appreciate a life outdoors. When I returned home to South Shields, I carried that with me, taking a role at South Shields Surf School and spending my days at the beach.

My boss there, now a friend, there has a deep knowledge of the local landscape and would point out the wildflowers along the coast as we checked the surf. Those conversations led me to explore further, taking walks along the coastline and seeing familiar places with fresh eyes.

During lockdown, I was given the opportunity to help on an allotment. It felt purposeful tending the land. From there, I began growing vegetables and flowers of my own, experimental fun without knowing exactly how things would turn out.

What draws me to gardening is the calming balance it offers,  the satisfying work, the softness of a petal, the surprise of a thorn, showers that weren't on the forecast and long days under the sun

I look forward to developing my business through experience, learning and time spent working in gardens

A local tribute

The name Lady Peebles is a quiet tribute to John Peebles, who was head gardener of South Shields’ South Marine Park in the 19th century. It reflects a respect for our towns gardening heritage and the generations of gardeners who have shaped these spaces over time.
